जब सिकन्दर भारतीयों से मिला, उसे आश्चर्य हुआ। भारतीयों ने बताया, भारत कितना विशाल है- उतर में हिमालय है, दक्षिण में हिन्द महासागर, पूरब और पश्चिम में भी महासागर है।

यहीं सिकन्दर से गलती हो गयी, इसकी कीमत बड़ी था और उसे चुकानी भी पड़ी। उसे अपना विश्वविजय का अभियान छोड़ना पड़ा.। अधूरा , बीच में ही. । उसके सैनिकों ने ना कह दी। 

सिकन्दर ने बातों बातों में जन-सामान्य भारतीयों के ज्ञान की विस्तृत विस्तार और गहराई की चर्चा सैनिकों में कर दी-एक पल को तो सब आवाक् रह गए । जव सदमें से उबरे तो एक साथ रोने लगे- कुछ ने सिकन्दर तो कुछ ने सैन्य सरदारों के पैर पकड़ लिए- एक स्वर में बोले-"हम हँसते हँसते जान दे सकते हैं यूनान के लिए , हम लड़ सकते हैं मगर पढ़ नहीं सकते"

अपवित्र पवित्रता

 पढ़े लिखे , ज़हीन लोग, सम्भ्रान्त लोग भेद-भाव करते हैं-नशेड़ी-गंजेड़ी नहीं करते। क्या अपना क्या पराया-इनके लिए सब अपने; हम निवाला , हम प्याला, अपनी धुन में हम, सारा जग लगे निराला।
अफीम की पिनक, गांजे का धुआँ और सारे मसले जिन्दगी के रफा-दफा । तो मार्कस कार्ल ने कहा धर्म अफीम है मगर एक जो कहने की हिम्मत ना जुटा पाए कि कुनबा परस्ती भी सस्ता गाँजा का नशा ही है जिसका सफर घर-परिवार-देश है। क्या होता अगर कह पाते कि देश भक्ति आगे चलकर एक संगठित अपराध का कवच बनेगा।

लोग शहरबदर होते-देश बदर होते , कई तरह के अनिश्चितता के बाद अपनी नयी जड़ नयी भूमि -नये लोग के बीच जमा पाते। ये उनकी कहानी है जो कर पाते, इनसे कई गुणे वो लोग हैं जो खप जाते और उनकी कहानी ही नहीं बनती। तो जो पहले से रह रहे लोग जिनको मूल निवासी की भी संज्ञा दी जाती है , जलने लगते हैं-उनको लगता है कि उनका हक़ था जो ये प्रवासी ले रहे। वो आसान रास्ता चुनते हैं पहचान का, और गोलबन्द हो कर टूट पड़ते हैं- संघर्ष व्यक्तिगत यात्रा है जो गिने-चुने की ही यात्रा होती है । ये अपराध है मगर सामूहिक पहचान के साथ की गई घृणित प्रयास जिसके लिए एक पवित्र लिफाफा चुनते जिसके उपर लिखा होता है एकता-देशभक्ति।
देशभक्ति ने सिपाहियों के परिवारों को दिया असमय मौत, उनके परिवार पर अनिश्चतता के बादल जिसकी बौछार में सारे सुखद भ विष्य के बुने सपने बह जाते। जनता को मिलते बमों से छत-विछत घरों के मलबे और कुछ  मृत अपने, नेताओं को असीम दमनकारी शक्तियाँ और निरंकुशता, व्यापारियों को अकूत धन बनाने के मौके, अधिकारियों को व्यापारियों की कमाई में उनका अवैध हिस्सा। तो इसमें अफीम कहाँ है, कहाँ है गाँजे का धुआँ- जनता का युद्धोन्मादी होना-जीत के गीत गाना-हार का मातम मनाना, अपने नेताओं को आदमी से भगवान बनाना और न देख पाना कि सारे कवायद का शिकार सिर्फ वही है- सारे षड़यंत्र दरअसल उसी की पेराई से उसका तेल निकाल कर नेता-व्यापारी-अधिकारी अपने जिस्म पर मालिश करते कि दंड-बैठक से वे और भी माँसल लगें।

         

घरोंदा रेत का

 घरोंदा रेत का, बच्चा किनारे समुद्र के बनाता, लहर आती और सब बराबर कर जाती। किनारा पहले की तरह साफ हो जाता। उसकी सारी जिन्दगी ऐसे ही कट रही थी। किसी से ठोकर मिलती और वो बेपरवाह-सा दीखता। लोग आलसी की तरह उसकी बेपरवाही को लेते । ठोकरें जब दिमाग पर निशान छोड़़ने लगतीं जैसे कोई आरी एक निशान से लकड़ी  को काटता हो। तब वह पहले तो काफी झल्लाता फिर उबरने को कुछ योजना बनाता और उसके अनुसार चलने की कोशिश करता। फिर कुछ नकारात्मक घटता और वह ऐसे बिखर जाता जैसे खुद ही रेत का घरोंदा हो।

उसने लहरों के सामने डटना नहीं सीखा... कि आती लहरों और घरोंदे के बीच खुद खड़ा हो जाए। बस गहरी नींद से जागना-अंगड़ाई लेना फिरसे जागने को नीन्द में खो जाना-कुछ ऐसै ही जीवन कट रही है उसकी।

हर चोट से और निखरता जाए, ऐसा हो जाए। हर ठोकर के साथ खुद को और ज्यादा अपने योजना पर खुद  को झोंक दे- काश जान पाए कि बाँध बधने तक सैलाब बार-बार आता रहेगा और वो ऐसे ही अपना सब गंवाता रहेगा।

बिना सर-पैर की उठा-पटक

 क्या कहिए, कहे बिन रहिए-ऐसे भी सहके रहिए

राजनेता, जनता और प्रजातंत्र

 राजनेता या जनप्रतिनिधि राह दिखाने के लिेए और जनता दिखाए राह पर चलने के लिेए- यही राजनेता और जनता के बीच वांछित संबंध है जिसकी आवश्यकता प्रजातंत्र की हमेशा से रही है। इसका अर्थ यह हुआ कि राजनेता बनने की चाह जिसने भी पाली उसे श्रेष्ठ मनुष्य बनना ही होगा। जनता जिन तमाम दुर्गुणों से भरी पड़ी है उसे उस जनता के औसत से ऊपर उठना ही होगा।  

ऱाजतंत्र के उलट प्रजातंत्र में शासक यानि जनप्रतिनिधि जनता के बीच से तो आएँ मगर जनता में व्याप्त दुर्बलता को छो़ड़कर आएँ।

शेष तो मिथ्या

 जब दिन बुरे चल रहें हों--

 क्या कहते हैं, चढ़े को भी कुत्ता काट खाता है
तो क्या कुत्ता चाँद की छलाँग मार जाता है?
नहीं जी, 
हाथी ही जमीन पर लोट जाता है
और सवार ज़मीन सूंघ जाता है
मतलब कुत्ते के अच्छे दिन, समझे कि नहीं

जब दिन अच्छे चल रहें हों--

कुत्ता भले ही चूहे के बिल में घुसा हो
या फिर सूखे नाले में दुबका पड़ा हो
सरेन्डर की मुद्रा में हो,
 पाँवों के बीच अपनी पूंछ
छुपाए-दबाए पड़ा हो
आदमी साला छान मारता है
कुत्ते की अम्मा कहाँ तक खैर मनाए
आदमी कुत्ते को नाले तक भी झंझोड़ मारता है

काट खाना ही शाश्वत गुण
शेष अच्छे-बुरे दिन तो -
सब मिथ्या है

 तुम वो नहीं, जो तुमने कही
मेरे लिए तो कतई नहीं

जो तुमने कही;

मैं भी वो नहीं, जो भी कही
औरों के लिए तो जरा भी नहीं
जो भी मैंने कही।

हम मूर्तिपूजक हैं
हमने पूजा है

देवलोक तक प्राणवायु बन।

ये तब की बात थी

जब सधे नहीं थे हाथ धरा पुत्रों के

न ही अवतारों के कहानियों से कान सुजे थे

तब नहीं आया था हाथ औजार

जो हुमाद को समिधा में बदल दे

न कान पकड़ते ध्वनि को ऐसे

जिह्वा हु-बहु दुहरा सके जैसे

कि पैदा हो आवृति, ध्वनि नाद मंत्रों जैसे।

फिर सीखा धरा पुत्रों ने-

पत्थर से पत्थर घीसना, आग जलाना

औजारों से लकड़ियाँ छीलना

समिधा बनाना, चक्के से दूरी मिटाना

यज्ञवेदी उकेरना, खुद को झुलसाना।

धरापुत्रों के स्वेदकणें के आहुति से

समिधा धधकी, अभ्यासी जीह्वा ने स्वाहा दुहराई

यज्ञ फिर-फिर सम्पन्न किया

ज्यों-ज्यों धरापुत्रों के दम घुटे

त्यों-त्यों देवलोक ने प्राणवायु पायी

और तब देवों के देवत्व ने ली अंगड़ाई
